Vignobles et Découvertes

A UNIQUE DESTINATION: "VIGNOBLES DE PROVENCE & DE MÉDITERRANÉE, UN BALCON SUR LES ÎLES D'OR" (PROVENCE & MEDITERRANEAN VINEYARDS, A BALCONY ON THE GOLDEN ISLANDS)

This destination is rooted in a typically Mediterranean setting, where theProvencal atmosphere floats and twirls... to the point of intoxication! The expression "between land and sea" has its full meaning here. Provence is France's oldest wine-growing region. The history of its vineyards began more than 2,600 years ago, when the Phocaeans introduced vines when they founded Massalia (now Marseille). This historical heritage lends cultural depth to the region's wines.

Today, this heritage endures thanks to the transmission of know-how, ancestral blending techniques and a constant quest for quality. The region boasts a total of 110 wineries, over 40 of which are certified, enabling wine lovers to discover a number of appellations that are the pride of our winemakers. Indeed, two Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée co-exist: Côtes de Provence La Londe & Côtes de Provence Pierrefeu.

Even if wine-growing plays an important role in the tourist offer, Provence Méditerranée and Méditerranée Porte des Maures are determined to promote all their terroirs, offering a wide range of activities.

The destination is a new territorial entity, combining characterful vineyards, a preserved natural heritage and the Provencal way of life

THE VIGNOBLES & DÉCOUVERTES LABEL, A GUARANTEE OF QUALITY

What is a label?

A label is a "brand" that identifies a service, product or company on the basis of the quality offered. It guarantees the customer/consumer access to a recognized and trusted service. The Vignobles & Découvertes label was created in 2009. It is awarded by Atout France, for a period of 3 years, to service providers or activities that are attractive for wine tourism: accommodation, restaurants, tastings, cellar and estate tours, museums, events, etc.

The Vignobles & Découvertes label is the leading national label for wine tourism. It is based on a strict set of specifications designed to ensure that label-approved offers are of uniform quality in terms of service. The label also guarantees responsible practices: sustainable and organic farming, eco-responsible and environmentally-friendly activities.

Essential values

  • Authenticity
  • A spirit of sharing and conviviality
  • Protection of heritage and the environment
  • Sustainable development of proposed activities

FOCUS ON WINE TOURISM

Wine tourism is becoming increasingly popular with visitors and local customers alike. Every year, more than 150,000 people visit the wineries and take part in the many activities on offer: wine and food tastings, walks, bike rides and mini-train rides through the vineyards, etc. It's worth noting that 14% of the region (or 11,200 hectares) is dedicated to farming, and mostly to vines, which are an integral part of the destination's DNA.
