Placing Street-Art in its broader historical, social and cultural context, of which Banksy is the emblematic representative today, the exhibition traces the stages in the evolution of urban art, starting with the pioneers of the graffiti era such as Crash or Seen, through the major representatives who brought this movement to international renown such as Keith Haring or Jean-Michel Basquiat, not forgetting the very rich French scene with Blek le Rat, Miss.Tic, Gérard Zlotykamien, to a wide selection of some of the most relevant artists on the contemporary scene, including JR, Invader, Madame...
With over 40 works on display, particular attention is paid to the figure of Banksy, who plays an important role in both the contemporary artistic and social spheres, becoming a veritable phenomenon capable of affecting and involving public opinion worldwide. His works have deeply permeated the collective consciousness, making them instantly recognizable.
Curated by Patrizia Cattaneo, one of the world's leading Street-Art specialists, and Brigitte Gaillard, Chief Curator of Toulon Museums.
