Historical Monument protection in a nutshell
In France, a historic monument is a piece of furniture or a building that has been granted legal status and a label by decree, in order to protect it on account of its historical, artistic or architectural interest.
There are two levels of protection: a monument can be "classified" or "listed" as a historic monument. In contrast to classification, which protects monuments of national interest, registration is the highest level of protection.
