The Ecollo association is offering a creative workshop where you can create designs on a variety of materials using plant elements from the Maures Forest, through two natural transfer techniques: tataky-zomé and cyanotype.
By combining two techniques for transferring plant shapes and colours, your unique creations will enhance all your fabrics and papers!
- Tataky-zomé is a Japanese technique involving direct printing from fresh plants and flowers by transferring pigments onto the surface through hammering.
- Cyanotype is a process based on ferric salts that produces a Prussian blue image after exposure to sunlight. Once the surface has been rinsed with water, the unexposed areas dissolve and the shapes stand out against the background colour.
The magical combination of these two processes will be complemented by the brush-application of natural dyes, resulting in an infinite variety of outcomes!
You’ll then be able to use all the plants and flowers of early autumn to create decorative motifs for a multitude of uses. From letterhead and greeting cards to murals and tapestries, from doilies, table runners and household linens right through to tote bags and T-shirts… come and unleash your creativity!
All you need is a light-coloured, porous surface.
For cyanotype, the UV-sensitive solution is applied to the surface, then opaque shapes are placed on top and exposed to the sun for a few minutes before being rinsed with water.
For tataky-zomé, you’ll need a suitable tool to press or hammer the plants into place through a transparent sheet, then set the colours using various methods – and that’s it!
The release of the subtle aromas from the flowers of these last days of summer will add to the experience of discovering them – you’re sure to be surprised.
This workshop takes place in the gardens of Écollocal; you must bring your own T-shirts and fabric to decorate.
Plants, flowers, colour-fixing agents and cyanotype materials will be provided by the association, as well as the tools and tapestries.
