Fauna and flora: a living nature to explore between land and sea

Preserving the flora and fauna of Méditerranée Porte des Maures today means guaranteeing sustainable, responsible tourism for tomorrow.

Between the MediterraneanSea andits coastline facing the islands of Porquerolles and Port Cros, the wooded hills and mythical forests of the Maures massif, the territory of Méditerranée Porte des Maures harbors a remarkable biodiversity, shaped by sun, wind and time.
Here, nature isn't just something to be contemplated: it's something to be experienced, listened to and understood, thanks to encounters with our passionate naturalist guides. Each season reveals a different facet of this generous and fragile nature.

An exceptional area, home to rare biodiversity

La Londe les Maures, Cuers, Collobrières and Pierrefeu-du-Var form a unique natural setting, combining maritime influences and forested landscapes.

Cork oak forests, fragrant maquis, chestnut groves, wetlands, agricultural plains and Mediterranean shores are home to a wealth of flora and fauna:

  • Hermann's tortoise, an emblematic and protected species
  • Raptors, passerines and migratory birds
  • Wild orchids, arbutus, myrtle and rockrose
  • Pollinating insects essential to the balance of ecosystems...

At the heart of this exceptional region, the village of Collobrières embodies a strong commitment to biodiversity. Nestled in the Maures Massif, it stands out for the omnipresence of its chestnut forests, shaped by man for centuries and today recognized as a remarkable natural and landscape heritage.
True ecosystems in their own right, the chestnut groves of Collobrières are home to a rich and specific fauna and flora, favoring the presence of pollinating insects, forest birds and numerous plant species. Combined with the cork oak forests, Mediterranean scrub and surrounding wetlands, they play a key role in the area's role as a biodiversity reservoir.
This close relationship between nature, traditional agriculture and environmental preservation makes Collobrières a territory committed to nature, where the discovery of flora and fauna is part of a respectful and sustainable approach. Discover the atlas of biodiversity in Collobrières.

Marine biodiversity, a treasure in the water

In addition to its terrestrial trails, the area also boasts exceptional marine biodiversity, intimately linked to the Mediterranean identity of La Londe les Maures, located in the maritime area adjacent to the Parc National de Port Cros.
Along the coastline, the Posidonia meadows, the lungs of the Mediterranean, are home to a discreet fauna that is essential to the marine balance, and the Jardin des Mattes underwater trail invites young and old to explore them in an immersive and educational way. Equipped with fins, mask and snorkel, visitors can explore the surface of the water and observe fish, marine plants and the seabed, while understanding the fundamental role played by these fragile ecosystems. It's an accessible, respectful and deeply disorientating experience, a natural extension of the discovery of terrestrial biodiversity... beneath the surface.
