Presentation

Located on the Pansard bridge at the entrance to the town, it was erected in May 1945. The names of three Resistance fighters from La Londe: Eugène Oswald, Louis Bussone and Pierre Rivault are engraved on it

Eugène Oswald was born on 14 August 1925 in La Londe. His father, Jacques, was the village doctor. To escape the STO (compulsory labour service) he ran away and joined the famous and glorious maquis of the Ain.
During an ambush set up against the occupying army from the top of a hill, he and 3 other maquisards were spotted by the Nazis who overlooked their position. The method of punishing the maquisards is strictly adhered to. After having machine-gunned their legs, the Nazis rush to finish them off. Eugène Oswald and two of his comrades from Haute Savoie were shot. The fourth, from the Ain, was able to drag himself to a nearby wood and survived his injuries.
A stele bearing the name of Eugène Oswald and his two comrades was erected on the site where they died in the commune of SONGIEU (01).
Pierre Rivault was born on 6 May 1920 in Tours. A worker at the Bormettes factory, he left the village by jumping from a lorry to escape the STO (compulsory labour service) and joined the maquis.
Taken prisoner by the Nazis with nine other FTPF (francs tireurs et partisans français), he was tortured, horribly mutilated, and then shot with his comrades on the banks of the Asse de Blieux, a small torrent located at the place known as la Tuilière in the commune of SENEZ in the Alpes de Haute Provence on 20 July 1944 at the age of 24. His body, found in a mass grave, was not identified until 1945 and his name was transcribed into the civil registers of this small commune. A square in the Bormettes district bears his name.

Louis Bussone was born on 30 July 1919 in La Londe.
Franc Tireur et Partisan Français (F.T.P.F). When the arrival of the American and French soldiers who landed on the Provençal coast on 15 August 1944 was announced, he sabotaged the Maravenne Bridge firing system. He then attempted to sabotage the device that the German soldiers had installed to destroy the Pansard bridge during their withdrawal.
Caught by an enemy patrol, he was shot near the cooperative cellar on 17 August 1944 at the age of 25, as the first American and French soldiers approached the village.
