Presentation

The stele recalls the sacrifice of four children of the district, who died for France during the Second World War:

Pierre Mazières born on 30 January 1918 in La Londe joined Commander Dor in August 1944 to form an FFI air unit.
Adjudicator of the 1/31 "Aunis" bombing group. He carried out several bombing missions. On November 13th 1944, his plane, a Junkers 88, had a mechanical problem and crashed at Colomiers (Haute Garonne). He was 26 years old.
By decree of 25 February 1945, he was posthumously awarded the Military Medal and the Croix de Guerre with palm. Pierre Rivault was born in Tours on 6 May 1920.
A worker at the Bormettes factory, he left the village to escape the S.T.O (Service du Travail Obligatoire) and joined the maquis in March 1943. He became head of the Santerre detachment in Brue Auriac (83). After blowing up an ammunition depot, he saved his detachment which was attacked on 16 January 1944.
On 20 July 1944, taken prisoner by the Nazis with nine other Francs-Tireurs et Partisans Français (F.T.PF), he was tortured and shot with his comrades on the banks of the Asse de Blieux, in the commune of Senez (04). His body was not identified until 1945 and his name transcribed on the civil registers of this small commune. Since 9 February 1945, this square in Bormettes has been named after him.

A master mechanic, he disappeared in the explosion of the torpedo boat "La Railleuse" off the coast of Casablanca in Morocco on 23 March 1940 at the age of 25. Reported missing, he was cited in the order of the Corps by order N°75 of February 4, 1952 for the following reason: "Fallen gloriously for France at his battle station"
