This monument was listed in the Inventaire Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques on 22 October 1976 and therefore benefits from the protection of Historic Monuments.
Contrary to various false statements, this structure has never brought water to the medieval perched village (castrum), due to its geographical location and, above all, to the later period of its construction. In the village, this building continues in private properties, but these arches do not have the importance of those which cross the road to Valcros. The aqueduct could have been built in the 15th/16th centuries, when the medieval village was moving down to the plain and settling around the present Rue Nationale and Rue des Baudes, as evidenced by the doors of houses dating back to those times.
Its function was to supply the village fountains, whose water was used by the people of Cuers for their daily needs, but also for the irrigation of crops. The whole structure is made of stones or rubble, all bound with earth and lime; the top of the aqueduct is surmounted by a channel where the water circulated.
